For two years, Mary Shelley finished and published the first edition of Frankenstein. After five years, the first Frankenstein adaptation, and the only one experienced by Mary Shelley herself, was brought on stage. And the next two more centuries have seen streams of adaptations and responses that could hardly be calculated.
From films, stage plays, and musicals to even ballets, some dramatized the fears unfolding in the face of science, while others traced back to the discussion of love and life. Some outstood as classics themselves, while some flopped on the opening night.
