Jinhua -- 1st African Culture Festival and 10th Anniversary of the Africa Museum of the Institute of Africa Studies ZJNU consummates with ambassadors' greetings, scholars' lectures, and release of a special documentary demo.
December 30th, 2020, the Institute of African Studies of Zhejiang Normal University held the closing ceremony of African Culture Festival, rounding off the one-month celebration of the 10th anniversary of the establishment of African Museum.
Yang Wenjia, vice-president of the institute presided over the ceremony. “The African Museum of our institute is more than just an exhibition,” said Yang, “it is a three-dimensional textbook that bridges China and Africa for academical and cultural communication.”
The last month of 2020 witnessed a series of activities of the festival.
Greetings from Ambassadors and Scholars
On the opening ceremony, African dancers in ethnic costumes welcomed audiences into the museum with native dancing. Greetings from ambassadors and scholars were displayed to commemorate the establishment of African Museum and the contributions it has made during the past 10 years. Lu Shaye, ambassador of China to France, former Director-General of the Department of African Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, recalled the day when he attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony of African Museum in 2010, marking its significance and thanked the museum for their efforts in Sino-African studies and people-to-people exchanges.
What culminated the whole ceremony was the lecture of Professor Liu Honghu, Director of the Institute of African Studies, on his personal story with African art and African study.
“The best time to plant a tree was ten years ago, followed by now,” said professor Liu, encouraging students at the scene to throw themselves into African studies.

Diverse lectures have been delivered to lead students exploring a multi-faceted Africa, covering fine art, anthropology, ethnical histories and Children's Literature.
Two cultural salons, themed “Walking on Africa” and “Medical Practice in Africa” , presented the continent from the perspective of Chinese students and doctors who have studied and aided there.
Sino-African Youth Forum provided a platform for both Chinese and African youngsters to exchange their understandings about the relationship and future development of China and Africa.
The release of the documentary demo reviewing the ten-year history of African Museum marked the conclusion of the closing ceremony as well as the First African Cultural Festival.
